Cut off any green tops, then keep the carrots unwashed in the salad drawer, in a perforated bag or wrapped in a damp cloth. Loose carrots often last longer than this, bunched ones nearer a week. Slimy or mouldy carrots should be thrown away. For freezing, slice and blanch them briefly.
How to tell if carrots have gone off
These are guide values for food that has been stored properly. Check how it looks, smells and feels: mould, a sour or unusual smell or a slimy surface mean it should go in the bin. Eat raw meat and fish strictly within these times, and never after the use-by date.
