Leave them unwashed with the green tops on, spread out side by side and covered in the salad drawer. Mushy or mouldy berries should go straight away, because mould spreads unseen through the whole fruit. For freezing, wash and dry them, freeze them spread out on a tray, then bag them.
How to tell if strawberries have gone off
These are guide values for food that has been stored properly. Check how it looks, smells and feels: mould, a sour or unusual smell or a slimy surface mean it should go in the bin. Eat raw meat and fish strictly within these times, and never after the use-by date.
