Room temperature 2 weeks

Sweet potatoes keep best somewhere cool, dark and dry at around 13 to 15 °C. The fridge is too cold for them: it leaves them hard in the centre and spoils the flavour. Soft, rotten or mouldy patches mean they have gone off.

How to tell if sweet potatoes have gone off

These are guide values for food that has been stored properly. Check how it looks, smells and feels: mould, a sour or unusual smell or a slimy surface mean it should go in the bin. Eat raw meat and fish strictly within these times, and never after the use-by date.
