Tomatoes do best out of the fridge, somewhere dark and airy at about 12 to 16 °C. Unripe ones will ripen in a bright spot. Store them apart from other vegetables, as they give off ethylene. Frozen tomatoes go mushy and are then only good for sauces and soups.
How to tell if tomatoes have gone off
These are guide values for food that has been stored properly. Check how it looks, smells and feels: mould, a sour or unusual smell or a slimy surface mean it should go in the bin. Eat raw meat and fish strictly within these times, and never after the use-by date.
