Keep tomatoes out of the fridge, somewhere dark and airy at about 54 to 61 °F (12 to 16 °C), and let unripe ones ripen in a bright spot. Store them apart from other vegetables, as tomatoes give off ethylene. Frozen tomatoes turn mushy and are then only good for sauces and soups.

How to tell if tomatoes have gone bad

The times on this page are guideline values for food stored properly. Check how it looks, smells and feels: mold, slime, an off smell or mushy spots mean it goes in the trash. Eat raw meat and fish strictly within these times, and never past a "Use By" date.
