Shelf life of ham at a glance
| Storage | Unopened | Opened |
|---|---|---|
| Fridge | 2 weeks | 3 days |
| Freezer | 1 month | – |
Unopened packs go by their use-by date. Once a pack is open, put the ham in a well-sealed container. Ham sliced at the deli counter should be eaten within 2 days. Throw it away if it is slimy or smells sour. Dry-cured ham bought in one piece keeps much longer.
Does ham go off?
These are guide values for food that has been stored properly. Food past its best before date has not necessarily gone off, and many products are still fine after it. Look at it, smell it and taste a little before deciding. Mould, an unusual smell or a bulging tin mean it should go in the bin. A use-by date is different: do not eat the food after that date.
