Shelf life of salami at a glance
| Storage | Unopened | Opened |
|---|---|---|
| Fridge | 2 weeks | 3 days |
| Freezer | 1 month | – |
Keep unopened packs in the fridge; once opened, put the slices in a well-sealed container and use them up soon. A whole air-dried salami keeps for several weeks somewhere cool and dry, but belongs in the fridge once cut. A white bloom on the casing is normal; slimy slices are not.
Does salami go off?
These are guide values for food that has been stored properly. Food past its best before date has not necessarily gone off, and many products are still fine after it. Look at it, smell it and taste a little before deciding. Mould, an unusual smell or a bulging tin mean it should go in the bin. A use-by date is different: do not eat the food after that date.
